Punta Cana Trip - Day Six (his & hers)
Day 6 - Tuesday
My eyes opened in that "I'm completely wide awake" fashion before 8am. What in the world? Oh well. It was good sleep in a cozy bed.
Not much is open for breakfast, so we ate at Cafetto again. Clint ordered apple pancakes with strawberry sauce or something like that - the only kind of pancakes on the menu. He got plain pancakes with plain syrup and that really amused me for some reason. He convinced me to order fruit and I got good melon and strawberry, but then there was this orange shaped fruit that had the top cut off. Inside was a mucus like sludge surrounding its seeds. Disgusting. I'm not eating that. I told Clint he had to try it since he's the one who convinced me to order it. He took a small bite and said it was bitter like grapefruit. Blech! We both ordered huevos rancheros. I know what huevos rancheros are supposed to be like and this was not it. I was very disappointed. I got a corn tortilla with 2 fried eggs on top with some reddish orange sauce poured on top and a side of black beans. The tortilla and beans were good.
We made another stop at the gift shop today. We had thought we might go to a market in Santo Domingo. Once we saw how dangerous it was, we didn't even ask. Clint's coworker had given him money for an anklet and I got us some coffee and other souvenirs. We went back to the room before I had to be at work at 1:30. I got off work at 6pm. I felt sorry for Clint trying to figure out what to do while I'm at work.
We are wanting to be sure and try each restaurant while we are here, so tonight we are eating at Los Gallos - a Mexican restaurant. My stomach's been a little weird ever since we've been back so I'm wanting to take it easy. They set out chips and guacamole, pico de gallo, and plain cheese. I ate lots of chips and cheese. It felt normal and tasted good. I ordered black bean soup and fried chicken tacos - it was good. Clint ordered cochinita pibil since it sounded like what Johnny Depp orders all the time on Once Upon a Time in Mexico - it was fabulous! He also ordered some kind of steak thing. All in all we felt this restaurant was a success. Clint got a little piece of platano on his plate and I asked if I could just have a small plate of those. The waiter seemed to find this funny, but he was happy to oblige. I think my favorite thing about all-inclusive is being able to order a bunch of random stuff.
There was a show called Circus that night that we thought we might check out. There was a band playing and we listened for awhile. Clint and I started reminiscing on our dance classes and Clint said we should practice sometime. We went out on a veranda where no one else was and we started trying to remember how to waltz. It was sweet. I love him so much. It was ten to fifteen minutes past time for the circus show to start and I wasn't interested enough to keep waiting so we went back to the room.
I'm not sure what time we woke up. We went to eat at Cafetto and had huevos rancheros. The pancakes said they were apple with strawberry sauce. Sounded good to me, but when they got there, they were plain old pancakes. Bummer, oh well, I didn't pay for them.
We went to the gift shop again and got some souvenirs for ourselves, family and friends. We killed tim in the room until Julia went to work at 1:30. I relaxed on the balcony for awhile then went to swim in the ocean. The waves were much calmer today. I swam out for a ways and just treaded water for a while. I was surprised at how treading water didn't tire me out. The ocean is a beautiful aquamarine with many blue patches. Even while swimming you can see all the way to the bottom like you are looking through glass. You can see the ripples on the sand on the bottom. I swam around for a long time then came back to shore for a rest. I sat there under a thatched canopy cover and someone brought me a bottle of water. After resting I decided it was time for round two. I found a seashell I'm going to try to make into some jewelry for Jules. Again I swam and treaded water for awhile then came back in when I ran out of energy. Going back to the room my muscles kept getting tired. I got cleaned up and went to meet Jules when she got off work at 6:00. I felt really fatigued and Jules helped me realize that i had forgot about lunch while I was playing! No wonder.
When Jules got off work, we went to eat at Los Gallos, the mexican restaurant here at the resort. The food here is much different than what you would get in the United States. It has a Carribbean style to it I guess. I got puerco pibil tostadas and a steak that was way undercooked. Jules had bean soup and some kind of taquitos. The food was pretty good, just not as good as the mexican food at La Fiesta.
After we ate there was a band playing in one of the lounges. We listened for awhile, took a few pictures, and just roamed around. We went outside to a huge patio that overlooked the resort and practiced our dance moves.
